An assay is a sample of gold taken and tested to determine its purity. At the Guyana Gold Board, the following guidelines apply:

• Gold quantities submitted for assay must amount to a minimum of ten (10) troy ounces.
• Clients who do not meet the required ten (10) troy ounces, or who are not satisfied with the purity determined, may request a special sample.
• At the Guyana Gold Board, customers may request two types of assay samples:
  • XRF Only– A quantity of 4 grams is retained and sent for testing. Cost: $5,000
  • GGB/XRF– A quantity of 4 grams is retained and sent for testing. Cost: $2,000

NB: All assay payments to clients are made via cheque or EFT. As per GGB’s internal no cash payment is made.
